Summer League Regulations 2011

The league is responsible for handing out a rule book to each captain. Each rule book will have a copy of the field permits to present if issues arise on field bookings. As well, the league is responsible for providing mentors to teams (if requested) to help teams understand the rules of the game, develop basic skills and to understand spirit of the game.

Each team is responsible for paying $750 in league fees prior to the first game. It is the responsibility of the captain to collect individual fees from the players to make up this team fee. $50 of this fee is a deposit to be returned at the end of the season if no penalties have been accrued by the team.

Each captain is responsible for knowing the rules or having access to the rule book during game play and to educate their team to play according to these rules.

At the end of each game, captains are responsible for reporting game scores, spirit scores and giving the name of most spirited player on the opposing team. If all scores are not reported prior to league finals, the games without reported scores will be counted as a loss.

The league is responsible for following up on spirit scores that are below 2 (on a 5 point scale) or below 5 (on a 10 point scale). These teams will be coached by a league representative to help with understanding game rules and spirit of the game. If the team continues to score below the above stated spirit scores, they will be ineligible to play in league finals and forfeit their deposit.

Each team is responsible for fielding enough players for each scheduled league game. A team consists of at least 3 women and 4 men. If it is mutually agreed upon by both captains, a variance on this may be established. For example 4 women, 3 men, or 2 women, 5 men. However, as it is a mixed recreation league, the minimum number of one sex to be on the field at one time is 2. If a team is only able to field one female player, and if it is mutually agreed upon by both captains the game may continue with the team playing 1 women and no more that 5 men on the field while the other team plays 2,5.

Forfeiting games

If a team is unable to provide the above number of players and have not made arrangements with the opposing captain to reschedule the game at a mutually agreeable time, the team then forfeits the game and will lose $25 dollars from their deposit. This deposit must then be reimbursed to the league prior to the team being eligible to play in league finals. If there are no other penalties accrued by the team, the money will be returned to the team after league finals.

If a team is unable to field a team, and if the opposing captain is agreeable, the players from the two teams may be combined to play a recreational game, the outcome of which will not be reported to the league. However the team which forfeited will be record a loss.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to play in league finals, a player must have played a minimum of two league games with the team and be registered on the team roster. Players that are not on the team roster will not be eligible to play in the finals.

To promote league growth, each team is only allowed to register up to 6 players with a skill ranking of 8 or more. The league organizing committee reserves the right to discuss and change skill ranking of players if it is felt that players are ranking themselves at a level below their skill in order to create a team with more than 6 players ranking 8 or above. If there is a discrepancy in skill ranking, the league organizers will communicate with the team captain prior to adjusting the skill rating. If the captain and League committee can't come to an agreement on the ranking of the player in question the League committee will ask the other league captains to vote on the ranking of the player to decide the final ranking.

If a team does not adjust their roster and has more than 6 players registered to play who rank 8 and above, it will be suspended.

Please Note

The League Committee reserve the right to make changes to the league rules and regulations. This is a new format and as problems arise we may need to make changes to how things are run. Captains will be notified via email of any changes to league regulations.
